anamorphosis activity

Grid       colored pencils anamorphosis                 photoshop        transform         scale
Perspective      shadows             value

1. Describe the process you went through to change your object into the correct perspective to create the drawing. This is when you were in the lab.
for this anamorphosis project i used photoshop, i had to transform the image so it looked disproportionate when you look at it straight on but looked like a real coffee cup when looked at from a different perspective.

2. How did distorting and stretching the object allow for you to create a drawing that would look different to the viewer?
when drawing the grid this helped me to draw it exactly like the original photo. I added value and shadows to the drawing to make it look different to the viewer. the colored pencils were just to make the drawing less white and have more definition of where the light hit.
3. What were the most important concepts in the project to make it successful?
The shadows were the most important in my opinion because it made the lid stand out and the coffee color look different from the shadow of the cup.

Stencil project

Stencil                 Spray Paint       Xacto Knife        Positive/Negative Space
Composition    Collage                Photoshop        Threshold              Contrast

1. Explain how you changed your photo in the lab to create a stencil.

I tested the positive vs. negative space with the Threshold application to see which would give me the most contrast for the photo. I did this through photoshop and it was quite difficult to do since I am not technology savvy.

2. When creating the collage background explain your choices of colors, materials (magazine paper, books pages, etc), and placement. How does it relate to your topic? If no relation discuss general idea.

I chose a to not add water color because i wanted the composition to make the castle look like it ws coming out of a story book. i lined the stencil up with the bottom of the paper because i thought it would look weird if it was completely center. the collage of book pages in the back had some girly aspects like pictures of ballerinas or words like pretty since it is cinderellas castle and that just screams girly. i chose the spray paint colors of purple blue and pink to just give its a dark elegant look.
3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil.

i decided to make the castle the part i cut out and the details within the castle to stay as the positive space.  this worked out well in the end.

4. When using the xacto knife, explain the safety procedures, how to use the knife and any challenges you had to overcome while cutting.

do not cut toward yourself, take your time, dont run with the knife in your hands. do not horseplay while using an xacto knife it was quite difficult to cut round edges with the knife or small zig zags.

5. How was your experience with the spray paint? Discuss how color choice is important, placement of stencil, and any other concepts you noticed while creating this.
i loved this project even though i was frustrated at the xacto knife. color choice can set the mood for the piece, if i had done red and black it could have been the evil queens castle instead of cinderella. the placement of the stencil draws the eyes to different things in the piece of work.
